Okonomi
I can't think of a better breakfast in all of New York than this: Crispy mackerel skin dotted with sea salt, one exquisitely custardy egg with bonito and a colorful yet gentle gathering of pickles to round things out.
My advice is to venture to Okonomi some rainy morning on your own. Take a seat at the bar. Get the uni if they have it (as you can see here, I did not--but that's a rare oversight on my behalf). Sip your tea quietly, go slowly through each part of the dish. It will all go by too quickly, but isn't that most often a sign you've come to the right place?
